Independent Search Engine & Directory Network (ISEDN) - Breaking News!
Watch out for a shift in the pay-per-click (PPC) industry, happening right now! This shift is finally going to give smaller search engines and directories the ability to tap into the PPC market, currently monopolized by the big guns online (Google, Yahoo & MSN). They will attain this lofty goal by banding together and delivering paid ad placements on a mass community scale for a fraction of the cost.
More and more advertisers are going to want to advertise through the ISEDN because of the sheer amount of exposure that they will be able to receive through all the search engines and directories partnered together through this network.
I was able to be the first to interview Mel Strocen, CEO of Jayde Online, Inc., the parent company of ExactSeek.com.
The Independent Search Engine & Directory Network (ISEDN) was an outgrowth of ExactSeek’s commitment to bring affordable and effective search advertising to the web community. Although ExactSeek was successful in partnering with a number of search engines and directories, it became apparent that popularization of a new pay-for-inclusion program would be better served by an active and independent association of search engines and directories than by a single engine.
Here are some excerpts from that interview:
Martin: “When was the ISEDN formed? ( http://www.isedn.org )”
Mel: “The organization was officially founded in June of this year, although the idea for a network of this kind was being discussed for several months previous to that. The ISEDN website, however, is only a few days old.”
Martin: “How many members does the ISEDN network have right now?”
Mel: “47 members at the moment, but the network has been acquiring new members at a rate of 3 - 5 per week.”
Martin: “What kind of market reach can the network deliver?”
Mel: “It really depends on how big the network becomes. Some search engine and directory members have reported 10,000,000+ searches/month but, given the rapid growth of the ISEDN and the fact that it’s only a few weeks old, we really haven’t had the opportunity to determine the total number of search impressions the network can deliver. We expect to receive specific numbers from the members in the coming weeks which will enable us to provide a more accurate picture of the network’s search reach. My best guesstimate right now is that pay-for-inclusion listings are displayed approximately 120 million times per month. Of course, that figure will grow as the ISEDN grows.”
Martin: “Why should advertisers choose the ISEDN network over Google or Yahoo?”
Mel: “The most obvious reason is cost. An advertiser buying a 3 or 12 month listing is looking at a cost of $3 - $4 a month. I’m not aware of any other engine that can match what the ISEDN offers in terms of value or exposure. Where else can you buy targeted keyword terms for less than $5 a month and get top 10 exposure for your site listings across 45+ search engines and directories?”
Martin: “You’re right, that is amazing!”
Martin: “Because of the sheer distribution size this could potentially have, what preventive measures are being implemented for click fraud?”
Mel: “In the ISEDN advertising model there is no incentive for click fraud to occur. You pay a one time fee for your selected keyword term and that’s it. Competitors or bots could click on your ad repeatedly and it wouldn’t cost you a penny more. With the monetary motive for click fraud removed, it’s unlikely to be a problem.”
Martin: “What does the future hold for the ISEDN?”
Mel: “It’s a little early for me to speculate on how the ISEDN might evolve. ExactSeek is just one member. Future plans will depend on member participation and input in the coming months. What I would like to see is for the ISEDN to become a counter weight to the gradual monopolization of search on the Web by engines such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN. I would also like to see the ISEDN contribute in other areas related to search such as search relevance and possibly the support of open source search software. In the long term, I believe the Web and searchers in general will be better served by diversity than by monopoly.”
Martin: “Are members going to decide the future of the network?
Mel: “The short answer is yes, they will. To function effectively, the ISEDN will in time need to implement some kind of governing structure that determines the organization’s future course. What that structure is and how the ISEDN evolves will depend on input from the members. Initially, direction and objectives will most likely be determined by majority concensus.
We’ve just added a private member discussion forum to the ISEDN website which will allow members to voice their views on issues such as the network’s direction, objectives, online advertising, governing structure, network promotion and other topics of relevance to the membership.
Martin: “So will any of the discussions from the network forum be opened up to the public?”
Mel: “Eventually, yes. Assuming public interest, we’ll setup discussion forums that allow webmasters and/or siteowners to ask questions and provide feedback to individual ISEDN members or to the membership as a whole. If we go this route and, I expect we will, it should help to improve communication between searchers and search providers. It should also help raise general public awareness of the many excellent directories and search engines on the Web that currently are under the radar.”
Martin: “So how does the advertising portion work?”
Mel: “Every ISEDN member is provided with an XML feed to implement within their search results or directory listings. The feed can be modified by the individual members so that pay-for-inclusion listings are displayed in a way that matches their site look and feel, but regardless of how the listings are displayed, advertisers are guaranteed top 10 exposure across the entire ISEDN network. Premium placement of this kind is made possible by the fact that we limit the number of times any one keyword term can be purchased and because all paid listings are rotated in the SERPs (search engine result pages) on each individual engine and directory.
Surveys have consistently shown that few searchers look at more than 30 search results for any given search query. The ISEDN advertising model takes this into account and limits the sale of any keyword term to 30. If a keyword term has been sold less than 10 times, the paid listing almost always appears on the first page of search results (depends on how many listings an ISEDN member displays per page) although not always in the same position. If a keyword term has been sold more than 10 times then paid listings begin to rotate between the SERPs. On sold out keyword terms, the worst case scenario for an advertiser would be that his listing would appear on the first page of results roughly once of every 3 searches on his keyword term. This is somewhat offset, however, by the fact that the system supports broad keyword matching as well as exact keyword matching.
Martin: “With this first come, first serve program - Are you worried that bigger companies will buy out all the keywords available?”
Mel: “Not really. There are literally millions of keyword term combinations available. As the more obvious terms are bought out, it might require more creative thinking on the part of advertisers to come up with good searchable terms, but other than that, I don’t anticipate a problem. Based on current trends, many buyers either forget to renew their keywords or simply let their listings expire. The end result is that thousands of keyword terms will be rolling over on a continual basis. In the event that the program becomes so wildly popular that keyword availability does become a problem, we may have to look at changing the parameters of the system to accomodate demand, but that’s unlikely in the forseeable future.”
THIS IS AN ADVERTISER’S DREAM!
Anytime a PPC or paid inclusion ad can get distributed through an entire network of competitors, it has the potential to be very powerful and deliver a lot of quality results. Personally, I would much prefer to advertise within 100 websites rather than just one. The power of advertising is in the numbers!
This couldn’t have come at a better time. The SEO industry is crying for quality PPC alternatives. Google’s recent battle with click fraud has left many advertisers world wide wondering if they should really keep their entire internet advertising budget within one basket.
Increase Your ROI Through Smaller Programs Online:
More and more, Smartads is recommending paid advertising in smaller, more tightly knit search engines and directories to our clients. ROI (Return on investment) is very important to the adverising industry, and we have found that advertising in smaller ventures rather than the bigger gorillas online, brings better results.
The reason for this is simple:
* - Less competition
* - Greater targeted audience
* - More local opportunities
* - More exposure for your money
In the old days, creating smaller, more targeted PPC campaigns used to be a lot of work for the marketing professional to research and maintain. The ISEDN has made that job a lot easier for us to maintain on a larger scale. Why would spend hours trying to find smaller directories and other programs, when you can find them under one umbrella?

The Thriving Cosmopolitan Estate Market Place - Fostered by Property Index
Notwithstanding the fact that Property Index is generally viewed as a fledgling enterprise, doing business since March 2007, they have proven their mettle very quickly. They’re a very easy going enterprise focusing on offering experienced guidance to anyone who is determined to sell property across the globe. Their promise: to assist you pinpoint dead-on what you are looking for quick and, furthermore, unproblematically.
Land is available for the asking in most areas of the world now, possibly the coolest area being property on the market in Portugal. It’s no big challenge to tally the phenomenal real estate for sale in Portugal, the rationale for investigating estate here is the houses and apartments on the market and the opportunity of living together with such a animated and lively population.
This is one of the most popular areas now, and with the lovely landscape and wonderful weather that surrounds you round the clock, how could you conceivably say no! Land in Portugal is rich in history, this area of the world has always been home to a number of nations.
Only 20 years ago there’d be just a trickle of English people in search of real estate in Portugal. Just ask about anyone who has chosen to remove to Portugal and they’ll tell you the same. Quite a few people would see it as a trend and others see it as a that’s more or less a compulsion. People keen on repairing here generally range from yuppie couples keen on an exciting new perspective to the older generation planning to settle down.
Do bear in mind, though, that there might well be quandaries when buying real estate in a foreign market — expectably there are a hundred procedures when working out a plan, surveying or actually purchasing. If you only miss one single minute action this is liable to trigger huge quandaries not to forget, preeminently, a financial hammering.
As you’re sure to suppose with this trendy location, real estate might be rather costly in this location and that’s solely owing to the increasing demand. Nevertheless property buyers actually are particular in an area full of sunshiny countryside and view. It doubtlessly has the lot any of us may relish, and lots more.
Property Index sell a range of villas and apartments, take a look at their site if you are looking for overseas property investment, click here to view the properties.
Protect Yourself from the UK Credit Crunch with Cheap Office Furniture
The credit crunch might often be a scary situation for any small firm, especially with the rate of organisations having to shut down in the last 8 months. With the credit crunch it highly makes most business finance directors to decide to reduce company budgets for just about anything like workplace furniture. With this in mind, the greater part of the firm owners are now looking at second hand furniture or low cost office furniture. If you are looking for classroom furniture, you can shop for School Furniture online at CFW.
No more are the days when you would kit the workplace in oak and pine antique chairs from the Victorian era and enjoy marble flooring at reception. Countless now use flat packed office furniture. The spectacular thing about affordable furniture is that company owners will probably actually get much more for your cash than owners would expect. For the same price of an antique pine reception desk, organisation owners could probably afford to buy a woodchip reception desk, leather chair, filing unit and office plants.
With the UK credit crunch, lots of organisations will be looking for ways to minimise outgoings. Assessing the cost that is not necessary can help various firms free up cash to improve their cash flow. So next time owners are seeking to purchase office furniture be fully aware that there is a cheaper option out there if accountants look for it.

When Adsense Makes No Sense: Knowing When Not To Use The Google Adsense Pay-Per-Click Program
Google’s AdSense program is a proven money-maker that has enriched the pockets of many website owners. Unlike many pay-per-click systems, the AdSense program has a large pool of advertisements to draw from — the ads come from Google’s AdWords program, which you can think of as the flipside of AdSense — which almost guarantees that AdSense can find relevant advertisements to display alongside a site’s content.
There are times, however, when using AdSense makes no sense at
all. Here are some common scenarios:
1. Your site gets too much traffic.
The basic AdSense program is geared for small-to-medium sites. If your site gets significant traffic, look into the Google AdSense Premium Service (http://services.google.com/ads_inquiry/ct). This is the program used by sites like Amazon.com and the New York Times.
2. Your site does not conform to AdSense program policies.
You cannot display AdSense advertisements on any site that violates the AdSense program policies (https://www.google.com/adsense/policies). This is outlined in the first section of the AdSense terms and conditions (https://www.google.com/adsense/terms) to which you agreed when you joined the AdSense program.
Practically speaking, this means that any content that promotes pornography, gambling, drug use or any illegal activity is unsuitable for AdSense use. You are also forbidden from using AdSense to promote alcohol, tobacco, conterfeit goods and other controversial products or services. If you’re running an online casino, for example, AdSense cannot be used on the casino’s site.
3. Your visitors are offended by advertisements.
Above all else, AdSense is an advertising distribution program: you’re renting space on your pages to Google for the display of advertisements drawn from its AdWords program. In return for the use of your space, Google gives you a cut of the pay-per-click revenue it makes from the advertisements shown on your pages. If most of your visitors find ads offensive, they’ll stay away from your site and you won’t make any money from the ads that are displayed anyhow, so you might as well not display any ads.
Note that there’s a difference between offending your visitors by showing any advertisements at all and offending them by showing the advertisements in so obnoxious a manner that all they want to do is leave your site. In fact, displaying ads in an intrusive manner violates the AdSense program policies and should be avoided for that reason alone.
4. The ads are simply unsuitable.
Although Google does its best to find targeted advertisements that are relevant to a page’s content, sometimes that targeting fails and unsuitable ads are shown. If your content is about the evils of dieting, for example, you probably don’t want to see advertisements promoting specific diets. Nor do you want to see advertisements for competing products or services. AdSense lets you filter out many advertisements, but in some cases it’s simply impossible — or too much work — to keep out the unsuitable advertisements.
5. You make more money by keeping visitors on your site.
The fundamental premise of pay-per-click advertising is that you’re willing to send your visitors elsewhere in return for some kind of payment. If AdSense is your only form of revenue then this is an acceptable trade-off. If, however, your site makes you more from other programs, you should consider whether or not losing some of your visitors to pay-per-click ads is worth it.
You don’t have to remove ads entirely to handle this problem. You can simply reduce the number of ads that you display and even reposition them so that they’re clicked less often. Or place them only on the site’s exist pages — the pages from which your visitors typically leave the site. Remember that your visitors are going to leave your site eventually anyhow, you’re just trying to get them to stay longer.
Another strategy is to use AdSense link units instead of regular text or image advertisements, because you can configure link units (unlike the regular ads) to open in a separate window when clicked.
Remember that the AdSense program is a flexible pay-per-click
program. You don’t have to show advertisements on each page of
your site — in fact, the AdSense program policies forbid
you from displaying ads on certain kinds of pages. Nor do you
have to display ads on each site you own. You can even decide
whether image or text advertisements (or both) are to be shown
on a page-per-page basis. And of course you can use AdSense
channels to discover just exactly which pages are making you
money and which pages aren’t.
Use AdSense’s flexibility to your advantage, but don’t get
stuck on it if it’s not working for you. There are other
pay-per-click and impression-based advertising systems out there
to explore. For a general, all-purpose program it’s hard to beat
AdSense, but your situation may warrant a more specialized
program. Some sites make more from affiliate programs that from
selling advertising, or use a combination of both. Do the
search and figure out what’s best for you.

Blogs- Why Do People Blog
Blogs are becoming very popular. The rate at which the numbers are increasing is mind-boggling. Why is this happening? Why everybody wants to create a blog? Who else will read that blog? If everyone is busy writing his/her blog why and when will they get time to search for other blogs and read them? Because of this over population and density, will blogging become another failure? Is it a fad, which will pass away? Let us examine?
Why do people blog? Most of the people write blogs to express themselves. They are sure that on their blog they will get what they want printed. If they write articles or columns for newspapers they may or may not get printed. Writing a blog gives the power to each of us to get printed immediately. I personally write my blog to express myself freely and feel good to see that what I wrote got printed immediately.
Another reason of writing in a blog and website is freedom of design, layout and structure. Blogging gives this freedom. It does not need navigation architecture designs of a website nor a structured menu. You write and get printed - as simple as that. This has a flip side also. In a website one can lay out the information in an easy to access and read format. You can lead your reader to a particular page in a website. You cannot do that on your blog.
Do blogs get read? How does one popularize one’s blog? These are difficult questions to answer. For most of us, it is difficult to find time and submit our blog in the increasing number of directories. It is also difficult to make sure that our blog will get one of top rankings in a search. Only the search engines know the secret of that and others only speculate. If we try to read the articles written on this subject, not only the quantity but the difference of opinions will leave most of us tired, frustrated and undecided. One more issue- before you decide that you would want to popularize your blog, please think - whether you search for blogs and read them? A lot many of us are so busy writing our own blogs, that we find no time looking for others. Why should this not apply to our potential readers?
Whatever the pros and cons of blogging, one outcome is certain. Blogs give us the opportunity of writing what we want and get it printed.

Under The Covers: ClickBank’s Affiliate Tracking System
The core principle of affiliate marketing is that the referring affiliate earns a commission if a referred prospect makes a purchase. Any affiliate program that aims to succeed in its recruitment efforts must uphold this principle, regardless of whether the prospect buys immediately, or delays her purchase until some time in the future.
To fairly and accurately distribute affiliate commissions requires a database that maintains a list of the relationships between prospects and the affiliates that referred them. Ideally, this database would be centralized, hosted as part of the software application that manages the affiliate program. But this approach would only be feasible if web visitors could be automatically distinguished from each other, using a unique and permanent identity code.
Unfortunately (for affiliate program operators) web users prefer to surf anonymously. Web browser software is designed to allow a surfer to visit any website without leaving a personal identity trail. So, affiliate programs need a less intrusive method of tracking the associations between their members and the surfing public. The solution adopted by most programs, including ClickBank, is to distribute the database throughout the internet, storing a tiny fragment of information on each prospect’s computer. They implement this using cookies.
ClickBank uses a mechanism known as the hoplink system to record cookies on a prospect’s computer, storing multiple affiliate referral relationships in a single cookie. Every time a prospect is referred to a new merchant, her existing referral cookie is updated to reflect the association between the new merchant and the affiliate that referred her.
The hoplink system is invoked automatically whenever a prospect is referred to a ClickBank merchant by an affiliate. When a prospect clicks on a referral link, she is initially directed to ClickBank’s hoplink server. The server, in turn, sends her the referral cookie and immediately redirects her to the merchant’s website. The destination of the redirection is known as the merchant’s landing page and is configured within his ClickBank account settings. A landing page is a merchant web page designated to accept inbound affiliate referrals.
The hoplink system is implemented by two architectures that operate in parallel. The original architecture, known as the regular hoplink system, has been in operation since the launch of ClickBank, but it has come under criticism for its inflexibility and the ease with which it allows commission theft. Announced in October 2003, the enhanced hoplink system aims to overcome the security shortcomings of the original system and to provide support for a range of new features that will improve the effectiveness of the affiliate system.
Aside from improvements in security, the enhanced hoplink system is designed to capture additional data that will enable detailed reporting of affiliate referral statistics and merchant conversion rates. Perhaps most significant of all, it provides support for referral links to multiple landing pages at the merchant’s website - an essential feature that has previously been noticeable by its absence.
Affiliates with established businesses that use regular hoplinks are free to continue without modifying their existing configurations. But to exploit the richer functionality resulting from ClickBank’s ongoing system development, it is worth upgrading to the enhanced hoplink format.

Burn Injury Settlements
Burn injury settlements depend on the extent of injury, defined in terms of area and depth of tissue damaged. Burn injuries can be caused by chemicals, electricity, heat and radiation. Settlement amounts are usually large owing to factors like expensive medical treatment and permanent physical damages including disability, scarring, infections, blindness and hearing loss, as well as lifelong psychological pain.
Burn injuries are categorized into first, second and third degree depending on the depth of tissue damaged. First degree burns, like sunburn or minor radiation burns, are damage to the outer skin layer and will heal in a few days. Second degree burns damage outer and inner layers of skin, while third degree burns damage subcutaneous tissues like blood vessels and muscles. Second and third degree burn injuries require prolonged hospitalization. Third degree burns need surgery, skin grafting, reconstructive surgery and therapy. The lifelong emotional disturbance caused by scarring and altered physical looks is something the jury must also consider when deciding on cases of burn injury settlements.
Thermal burns are caused by hot objects like fire and boiling water. Chemical burns are caused by chemicals like acids. Radiation burns occur in cases of prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or UV lamps. Electrical burns are a result of electrical shocks.
Burns are mostly caused by defective products including electrical appliances and household utilities. Faulty electrical wiring cause fires leading to serious burn injuries. Cosmetic products and cleaners cause chemical burns. In all cases, a victim is entitled to compensation for personal injury caused by defective goods.
Because the victim of burn injuries may feel very self-conscious and suffer from trauma, settlement cases are treated with much sensitivity. The settlement verdicts generally show the jury’s awareness of the need for mental and physical treatment and rehabilitation.
Injury Settlements provides detailed information about injury settlements, burn injury settlements, hydrocodone injury settlements and more. Injury Settlements is affiliated with Debt Settlements.
Cash for Structured Settlements
You may have come across innumerable advertisements promising you attractive cash returns for your structured settlement. Alternatively, there may have been companies who might have approached you to cash your structured settlements. There may be instances wherein you need the money desperately, but before selling out, study the available options carefully. You must realize that there are both advantages and disadvantages associated with cashing structured settlements.
First and foremost, you need to decide whether selling the structural settlement, which you may have received as a result of a medical malpractice or a personal injury, is your only or best possible option.
Survey the market and you will find that there are many companies offering cash in return for the settlement. Before zeroing in on any one of them, do a comparative study and make sure the company you choose is financially sound. Also, remember to do a thorough study of the company background and its track record. This will minimize the risk of your not getting the payment.
There are many benefits associated with structured settlements. The major advantages of structured settlements are that it may reduce the plaintiff’s tax obligations and can sometimes be tax free. Then there is also the benefit of preservation of the settlement funds, which can be of great help for your future needs. Another advantage is that these settlements can also be coordinated with other benefits or public assistance.
Structured settlements can have some disadvantages associated with them. There may be instances when you do not have the funds to make even the necessary purchases. Also, at times you may have to pay high commissions while purchasing annuities. Another disadvantage can be in the form of your getting low returns for your investment options. Also, some people may find the entire process of payment in installments tiring. Alternatively, getting a lump sum payment gives you the chance of investing your money as you desire.
Settlements provides detailed information about settlements, debt settlements, injury settlements and more. Settlements is affiliated with Personal Injury Settlements.
