For Naveen Jain, mediocrity is not part of his vocabulary. Born to be a visionary, Jain founded Intelius and InfoSpace; both of which have transformed the information industry into a whole new stature. Naveen Jain was born and raised in Uttar Pradesh, India. After finishing his engineering course from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Jain took up his master’s degree in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations at the XLRI Jamshedpur School of Business and Human Resources. By way of a business exchange program, Naveen Jain eventually immigrated to the United States to analyze the emerging high-technology market in the country. In 1989, Microsoft Corporation hired him as a program manager overseeing the development of OS/2. There he also worked on other operating systems until he finally became a group manager for MSN. In 1996, he founded InfoSpace as an early online search engine and directory. He served as the firm’s Chief Executive Officer from 1996 to 2000, and then as Chief Strategy Officer from 2000 to 2001, and again as Chief Executive Officer from 2001 to 2002. Under Jain’s leadership, InfoSpace acquired Inex Corp., an endeavor which allowed them to offer services that would conceptualize, construct, promote, and operate websites. Its purchase of Union-Street.com has also allowed InfoSpace to offer visitor tracking capabilities, chat services and other upgrades. After just four years of operation, InfoSpace was valued at approximately $8 billion, with Jain owning 1/3 of the company. Naveen Jain founded Intelius in 2003, leveraging his business on the use of technology and innovative information and empowering people to make wise decisions, to reconnect with long-lost friends, and to ensure their security. Intelius caters to more than 6 million customers and offers an array of products and services including criminal and background checks, people search, identity protection, and employee and tenant screening.
